Frequently asked questions

Nursery photography, made easy

Organising photography can feel like one more thing on the to-do list, so we have kept our service simple, relaxed and as hassle-free as possible.

On the day

Who are you?

We are Marianne and Melanie, two local female photographers and mums of two each, with over 34 years of combined photography experience.

We photograph families, children and weddings across Bristol and London, and we are passionate about creating relaxed, natural photographs full of personality.

Why are there two photographers?

Because two photographers means twice the fun! One of us can interact with the children while the other captures those lovely natural expressions and moments.

It also means we can keep things moving and photograph more children without the experience feeling rushed.

Do you make children pose?

Absolutely not! We want children to be themselves. Some will happily sit and smile, while others would rather dance, play, chat or show us their favourite toy.

No forced smiles. No pressure. Just happy, natural children.

Can children bring a favourite toy or teddy?

Yes, please! Favourite toys, teddies and treasured little things are very welcome. They help children feel comfortable and relaxed, and they often make the photographs even more personal.

What if a child does not want their photograph taken?

That is completely fine. We never force a child to participate. We give them some time, try to engage them through play and see how they feel.

Sometimes the best photographs happen when children do not even realise they are being photographed!

What if a child is having a difficult day?

Children are children, and we completely understand. They might be tired, shy, distracted or simply not feeling it that day. There is no pressure.

Having two photographers gives us plenty of opportunity to capture genuine moments without making the child feel uncomfortable.

Can you photograph siblings?

Absolutely. If siblings attend the same nursery or setting, we are very happy to capture sibling photographs too. We can discuss the best way to organise this with your team before the photography day.

Consent & safeguarding

How is consent managed?

No child will be photographed without the appropriate parental or guardian consent.

We work with each nursery, pre-school or Montessori setting to agree the consent process before photography day. The setting should ensure the appropriate permissions have been obtained for each child taking part.

We are happy to work with your existing consent procedures and provide any information you need to share with parents.

What happens if a parent does not give consent?

No problem at all. Children without the appropriate consent will simply not be photographed. We work with your team to make sure we have a clear list of children who are permitted to take part before the session begins.

How do you handle children's photographs?

With care and respect. Images are used only for the agreed photography and ordering process, and are not used for marketing, social media or any other purpose without the appropriate additional permission.

We take safeguarding and privacy seriously and are happy to discuss your setting's specific requirements before booking.

Are you DBS checked?

Yes. We are both Enhanced DBS checked and First Aid trained, and we are happy to provide relevant documentation to your setting where required.

Do you need to be left alone with the children?

No. We work alongside your nursery team and follow your setting's safeguarding procedures. Your staff remain responsible for the children throughout the photography session.

Are you insured?

We can provide details of our professional photography insurance and relevant documentation to your setting upon request.

Ordering & commission

How does the ordering process work?

Completely online and super simple. Once the photographs have been taken, parents receive access to their child's contact sheet and gallery, then view the images and order online.

No paper order forms, no envelopes and no collecting cheques.

How long do parents have to order?

Parents have 30 days from the date the contact sheets are delivered. Our 10% nursery commission applies to all orders placed during this period.

After it closes, we calculate the total commission due to your setting and arrange payment.

How much commission does the nursery receive?

Your nursery receives 10% of the total value of all eligible orders placed during the 30-day ordering period. For example, if parents spend £1,000 in total, your nursery receives £100.

How much do the photographs and products cost?

We offer high-quality products at amazingly competitive prices, with options to suit different budgets. We want professional photography to be accessible to families while still providing beautiful products they will be proud to display and keep.

Do we need to organise paperwork or collect money?

No! We handle the photography, contact sheets, online gallery and ordering process, so there is no paperwork for your staff to manage and no money to collect.

Booking

What do you need from the nursery?

Very little! We work with your team beforehand to agree the photography date and discuss anything we need to know about your setting. On the day, your team simply helps us with the children and their normal routines.

Where do you cover?

We are local photographers covering Bristol and surrounding areas, and we are happy to discuss your location and requirements.

How do we book you?
